Dedicated English Language Development (ELD)

  • Three students sit a library table studying. One student looks directly at the camera and smiles.

Students enrolled in English Language Development (ELD) courses are more likely to be on track to English proficiency, according to the ACCESS Trajectory. Extensive research both within DPS and nationwide has shown that explicit language instruction should be sustained through the advanced levels of language proficiency to ensure academic success for Multilingual Learners (MLLs).

DPS requires that all schools, at both the Elementary and Secondary level, schedule a daily dedicated 45-minute ELD block for all eligible MLLs.

This page contains resources to assist with effective implementation of ELD.
