Advanced Degrees & Licenses

  • Teacher Sitting at Desk

For the 2018-19 school year, ProComp teachers and SSPs can earn an annual base salary increase of $3,851 by attaining an advanced degree from an accredited college or university for a subject area relevant to their occupation, or a license or certification from this list of recognized advanced licenses/certificates. Read each section below to determine eligibility guidelines and next steps to receive a base salary increase for earning an advanced degree or certificate.

Traditional teachers should also follow the eligibility guidelines and procedures below for advanced degrees. Traditional teachers are not eligible for an Advanced License increase.

  • Advanced Degrees

    Advanced Degree Eligibility Guidelines

    • Advance Administration degrees, including the Specialist in Education (Ed. S) are acceptable.
    • Employees may be compensated for an advanced degree salary increase every three (3) years.
    • Any new or additional degrees can be submitted 2 months prior to the three year anniversary of the time the last advanced degree was recognized.
    • Two separate degrees from a dual degree program can get salary increases three years apart.
    • An advanced degree can only be applied once. If an advanced degree has been previously applied to salary building or to a lane change for traditional teachers, it cannot be applied again.

How to Receive the Salary Increase

You will need to submit the following documentation to AdvDegLic@dpsk12.org:

    • Completed Advanced License or Degree Incentive Form
    • Advanced Degrees: A copy of an original transcript scanned on both sides with date and degree conferred notation on the transcript. We also accept eTranscripts-VeriSign.
    • ProComp teachers/SSPs: This form with transcripts can be submitted at any time during the year.  Advanced Degree forms received with all documentation between the 1st and the last day of the month will be paid on the second paycheck (the 22nd) of the following month.  The effective date of the increase will be the 1st of the month after receipt of the form and documents.

Traditional teachers: Lane Change Request Form must be submitted by January 1 or June 1.

  • Advanced Licenses

    Advanced Licenses Eligibility Guidelines

    • Employees can receive a salary increase for only one license/certificate in any one bargaining unit assignment; however, an employee who works two positions can receive more than one incentive for holding licenses/certificates in more than one discipline. For instance, an employee who is .5 FTE Social Worker and a .5 Nurse with both a DORA and a SNP will be eligible for two base pay salary increases.
    • License and certificate payment eligibility should be applicable to the employee's current job assignment.
    • A license or certificate can only be applied once to salary building.
    • The advanced license and/or certificate must be renewed to maintain the salary increase. If the license expires the salary increase is subject to be removed.
