    The Portfolio Management Team is committed to supporting our charter schools. Many resources can be found on our District Partners page. However, for PMT-specific resources and meeting structures that may be valuable to you, please check below. If you have a specific need not covered below, please contact Becky Zachmeier or Stacy Wojdak-Goodman.

    Chalk Talk

    Chalk Talk is a weekly email newsletter that serves to inform charter school leaders of upcoming deadlines, meetings and trainings, new policies and best practices. Chalk Talk also incorporates larger district communication (e.g. Leader Weekly) relevant to charter schools.

    School leaders, please disseminate relevant information from Chalk Talk to your staff as needed. Although this communication is specifically targeted toward school leaders, we are happy to include other members of your staff upon request. To request that someone be added to the Chalk Talk mailing list, please email the Portfolio Management Team.

  • Comprehensive Calendar

    In order to support charter schools, PMT has assembled a comprehensive calendar which we encourage you to refer back to regularly. We will highlight key upcoming deadlines in each issue of Chalk Talk, but the full calendar:

    • Serves as a resource for charter leaders when planning;
    • Reflects key dates for submission deadlines, optional and mandatory trainings, and other events;
    • Includes sign-up and submissions instructions;
    • Is regularly updated as new dates and events are scheduled; and
    • Has been developed in collaboration with other DPS departments.

    Year Zero Leader Guidebook

    Year Zero is the timespan between a new school’s approval by the DPS board and the first day of school operations. While in Year Zero, school leaders will be asked to:

    • Meet standard and school-specific conditions;
    • Submit various documentation;
    • Use their new school application and the condition guidance document as the basis of their Year Zero work and planning; and
    • Engage in the charter contracting and waiver process.

    Charter Leader Guidebook

    The Charter Leader Guidebook is designed for school leaders at charter schools authorized by DPS. It provides information and resources on:

    • Charter/District Relationship,
    • Charter Legislation, and
    • Supports and Services from DPS.

    Although this guidebook is comprehensive, it does not contain all available information for charter schools, nor should it be considered legal authority or advice. Charter schools are encouraged to contact the PMT and/or support teams at DPS for details about the information referenced throughout this document.

    District Charter Collaborative Council

    The council, made up of senior district leaders and charter representatives, meets regularly to discuss and develop policy recommendations that improve the way that DPS and its charter schools work together. It is the primary mechanism for collaboration between these two groups. In addition, decisions made by this body often inform positive change for the entire district. Members of the Council are guided by joint commitments to:

    • The three equities of responsibility, access, and accountability;
    • The value of sharing best practices and collaborating among multiple school types; and
    • Sustaining charter school autonomy.

    Charter Roundtable

    These quarterly meetings are for all charter school leaders to meet with the Superintendent and other district leaders. These meetings often are an opportunity for the Collaborative Council (see above) to present recommendations to the broader charter community for input. It is also the opportunity for the charter community to hear directly from the Superintendent on key issues. For more information, please contact Elizabeth Stamberger.

    Quarterly Charter Operations Workshop

    These meetings are for charter office managers, HR Liaisons and/or operations managers to discuss important tactical and logistical supports and processes.

    • Q4: Thursday, May 14

    Charter Business Manager Meeting

    This group of district and charter school staff (primarily business managers) meets regularly to discuss policy issues related to charter school finance.
