  • Lead Onboarding Model: A Comprehensive Approach for Foundational Success.

    The LEAD Onboarding program is a yearlong, self-paced program that takes a blended approach to orientation and training to ensure school leaders have the right information at the right time. It offers a balance of just-in-time central office support with practical school-based support and learning opportunities. All participants will receive:

    • A repository of onboarding materials, online resources and in-person, cohort learning
    • A LEAD Onboarding Flight Plan
    • A LEAD Orientation Scope and Sequence making it easier for school leaders to find essential information, understand and prioritize expectations and build valuable relationships along the way
    • Formalized relationship building with a mentor and network of peers to help new school leaders feel confident and hit the ground running

    Both Assistant Principals and Principals who are new to their role or to DPS will participate in a LIFT Off to Leadership: School Leader Orientation Program. See "What is Lift Off Leadership School Leader Orientation?" information below.

    New Assistant Principal Cohort

    The new AP Cohort is more customizable, individualized and comprehensive to help new APs develop themselves as leaders of leaders through a broader range of training supports, including: group mentoring, cohort support, site visits and peer coaching and feedback with a stronger focus on Operational and Organizational LEAD School Leadership Framework competency. See "The Assistant Principal Cohort: A Network of Support and Learning" information below.

    New Principal Cohort

    New Principal Cohort will also be more customizable, individualized and comprehensive and will provide supports to new Principals to utilize effective practices in the LEAD School Leadership Framework Competency “People and Culture”; Goals will focus on the following indicators: distributive leadership, talent management, staff culture; Mentor Principals will lead 6 week learning cycles based on goals that are set by New Principals; Establish a network of support, that includes peers, mentor principals and central office staff. See "The Principal Cohort: A Network of Support and Growth" information below.

    A Note About Induction

    It is important to note that induction certificates are contingent upon participation in the full cohort experience in year one for your role and all required orientation sessions. We recommend the required orientation sessions be completed within the first 90 days of the school year. For leaders not in an AP or Principal role, initial licenses will be renewed indefinitely until the leader transitions into an AP or Principal role and completes induction requirements. Click here to learn more. 

  • Learning Model

    To accelerate and enhance learning, LEAD Onboarding is designed using the 70:20:10 learning model to ensure continuous job-embedded, social and formal learning opportunities of emergent knowledge for first 12-18 months.

  • Lift Off Leadership School Leader Orientation

    LIFT Off to School Leadership School Leader Orientation is a specific component of the LEAD Onboarding program designed to meet needs of new school leaders. Both the LEAD Onboarding Flight Plan and the Lift Off to School Leader Orientation Scope and Sequence are designed to help leaders access the right learning at the right time.

    Fall and Spring School Leadership Institute: One week each

    • Wide range of facilitated courses, times and locations
    • Self select based on school and individual needs
    • Every course is designed using the 70-20-10 learning model and includes job embedded/applied learning, resources/job aids, and on the job coaching

    Year-round, continuous applied learning

    • eLearning modules
    • Authentic, school-based learning
    • Job aids, resources, tools
    • Job-embedded learning links in the LEAD Development Guide

    A repository of orientation materials, online resources and in-person workshops

    • LEAD Flight Plan designed for easy navigation of the LEAD Onboarding program

  • Assistant Principal Cohort

    The AP Cohort program empowers Assistant Principals who are new to their role or new to DPS to develop themselves as leaders of leaders through a broader range of training supports, including: group mentoring, cohort support, site visits and peer coaching and feedback. The AP Cohort is specifically designed to support growth with Organizational and Operational Leadership as defined in the LEAD School Leadership Framework. In addition to group mentoring, each member will host/engage in a school visit that is focused on a problem of practice.

  • Principal Cohort

    The Principal Cohort empowers Principals who are new to their role or new to DPS to develop themselves as leaders of leaders through a broader range of training supports, including: group mentoring, cohort support, site visits and peer coaching and feedback. The Principal Cohort is specifically designed to support growth and development within the “People and Culture” Competency as defined in the LEAD School Leadership Framework. Goals will focus on LEAD Framework indicators such as distributive leadership, talent management, staff culture. Through mentoring and quarterly hosted site visits, new principals will establish a network support that includes peers, mentor principals and central office staff.
