Close Contact for COVID-19 Leaves

  • This leave type is specific for employees who have close contact with a staff member or student who has tested positive for COVID-19.

Employees are eligible for an initial ten business days of leave to cover the self-quarantine period. If symptoms are experienced after ten business day, the leave can be extended for up to ten additional weeks as covered by the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).

Select your situation below for next steps.

  • A Student, Staff Member, or Someone Not Living With Me Has Tested Positive for COVID-19

Step 1: Do not report to the worksite. You should quarantine immediately.

Step 2: Contact your manager to inform them you need to quarantine.

      • Let your manager know you cannot report to the worksite for at least 10-14 days from the last exposure to the individual with COVID-19. The start date is the first date you did not report to the worksite.  Most quarantines should last 10 days. This quarantine period is appropriate for most people who do not have contact with high risk individuals. The length of the quarantine should extend to 14 days for people who have regular close contact with high risk individuals. This includes people who live or work in residential or congregate living facilities or people who had close contact with a case infected with a COVID-19 variant virus (Variantes del COVID-19) of concern. Visit this CDPHE page for more information on length.
      • Discuss with your manager if working remotely is an option.

Step 3: Submit a request for a Leave of Absence.  If you cannot work remotely, you need to submit a request for leave of absence immediately.

      • Steps for completing a leave of absence request:
        1. You must request a leave through TruePay. Use this How To Guide to submit your request.
        2. You will select Emergency Leave on the TruePay site. This is the COVID related leave option. You will need to attach documentation regarding the need to quarantine. This could be a quarantine document from your school or a positive result of the direct individual you came in contact with.

  • My Child or Someone in My Household That Cannot Isolate Alone Has Tested Positive for COVID-19

Step 1: Do not report to the worksite. You should isolate immediately as you support the recovery for the person in the household. You then need to quarantine after isolation.

Step 2: Contact your manager to inform them you need to isolate and quarantine.

      • Let your manager know you cannot report to the worksite for at least 20-24 calendar days as you are isolating for the first 10 days and quarantining for the next 10-14 days.
      • Discuss with your manager if working remotely is an option.
