Close Contact for COVID-19 Leaves

    This leave type is specific for employees who have tested positive, have symptoms, are isolated, or have been quarantined for COVID-19.

    For employees positive for COVID-19 prior to 12/28/2021 are eligible for ten calendar days of Emergency Leave - Employee to cover the self-quarentine period.

    On or after 12/28/2021, employees positive for COVID-19 are eligible for five calendar days of Emergency Leave - Employee to cover the self-quarentine period followed by five working days of mask-wearing. Visit the CDC for more information on COVID-19 related guidelines.

    If symptoms are experienced after five calendar days, the Emergency Leave - Employee can be extended with a doctor's note stating an estimated return to work date.

  • A Student, Staff Member, or Someone Not Living With Me Has Tested Positive for COVID-19

    A student, staff member, or someone not living with you that you have been in close contact with, has tested positive for COVID-19

    Step 1: Do not report to the worksite. You should quarantine immediately.

    Step 2: Contact your manager to inform them you need to quarantine.

      • Let your manager know you cannot report to the worksite for at least 5 days from the last exposure to the individual with COVID-19.  
      • Discuss with your manager if working remotely is an option.

    Step 3: Submit a request for a Leave of Absence.  If you cannot work remotely, you need to submit a request for leave of absence immediately.

      • Steps for completing a leave of absence request: 
        1. You must request a leave through TruePay. Use this How To Guide to submit your request.
        2. You will select Emergency Leave - Employee on the TruePay site. This is the COVID related leave option. 

    The start date is the first date you did not report to the worksite. The end date will be 5 calendar days from the day you were last in contact with the individual with COVID-19. If you test positive for COVID-19 during your leave, you will need to follow instructions above for “testing positive for COVID-19”.

    Emergency Leave - Employee are paid using sick leave bank, sick, vacation, and then personal/flex time.

  • My Child or Someone in My Household That Cannot Isolate Alone Has Tested Positive for COVID-19

    Step 1: Do not report to the worksite. You should isolate immediately as you support the recovery for the person in the household. You then need to quarantine after isolation.   

    Step 2: Contact your manager to inform them you need to isolate and quarantine.

      • Let your manager know you cannot report to the worksite for at least 5 calendar days as you are isolating and quarantining.
      • Discuss with your manager if working remotely is an option. 

    Step 3: Submit a request for a Leave of Absence.  If you cannot work remotely, you need to submit a request for leave of absence immediately.

      • Steps for completing a leave of absence request: 
        1. You must request a leave through TruePay. Use this How To Guide to submit your request.
        2. You will select Emergency Leave - Individual in Household or Emergency Leave - Related to Child Care on the TruePay site. This is the COVID related leave option. You will need to attach the positive results of the person in the household to the leave request or proof of child care/school closure. 

    The start date is the first date you did not report to the worksite. The end date should be no less than 5 calendar days from the day the person in the household first experienced symptoms of COVID-19. If you test positive for COVID-19 during your leave, you will need to follow instructions above for “testing positive for COVID-19”. 

    Emergency Leave - Individual in Household and Related to Child Care are paid using sick, vacation, sick leave bank and then personal/flex time. 

Who's Eligible?

  • All DPS employees are eligible for COVID-19 related leaves.

How to Request

  • You can request a Leave through TruePay. Use this How To Guide to submit your request. We recommend using a computer to submit your request as mobile devices have been found to be unsuccessful.
