As we continue to celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, the Asian Education Advisory Council (AEAC) celebrated 36 years of seeking to improve educational opportunities and to provide quality education for all students, particularly students of Asian/Pacific Island heritage. Earlier this month, Denver Public Schools Department of Social Work and Psychological Services honored the School Psychologist of the Year and the School Social Worker of the Year for the 2021-2022 school year. Amber Brydon from Girls Athletic Leadership Schools of Denver (GALS) was named School Psychologist of the Year and Angel Saiz from Northfield High School was named Social Worker of the Year. Dear Team DPS,
After years of community feedback, input and planning, DPS is moving forward with the return of a comprehensive high school to the Montbello neighborhood. The DPS Planning, Design and Construction team has announced the first phase of the new Montbello High School construction, which is slated to extend from June to August 2022.

DPS partnered with the University of Denver and STEM Generation to host the 2022 Science and Engineering Fair on April 29. All projects were recognized for specific STEM skills strengths (Creativity, Communication, Team Work, and Problem Solving). Today, I want to focus on three things: a question, a claim and a proposition. Before I dive into that, it seems useful to take our pulse. Perhaps you’ve noticed that DPS has been in the news lately. The purpose of this piece is not to criticize those who have an outside view of our organization. It is to share that as we are working collaboratively alongside our students, families, community, Board of Education and team members, we know it is best to keep our focus on what we are trying to accomplish -- to get better at getting better. Our challenge is that there is much debate and little consensus on how to consistently achieve that.
