Teacher Leadership & Collaboration: Who we are, What we do, Where we work, and Why this matters

Teacher Leadership & Collaboration (TLC) expands an exciting leadership structure in our schools focused on allowing highly effective teachers to share the expertise they have developed with fellow teachers, through the role of the team lead, extending a great teacher’s impact to multiple classrooms and helping more students grow. Team leads facilitate meaningful collaboration with a team of teachers while supporting strong one-on-one relationships for individual teacher growth and development. Moving forward team leads will be reinforced with complementary teacher leadership roles including team specialists, regional team specialists, new teacher ambassadors and resident mentors.

In a traditional school structure, great teachers must choose: work directly with kids in their classroom or content area, or step into a leadership opportunity—such as a principal role—that reduces their classroom-level impact. With TLC, teachers have new choices. The “hybrid” team lead role allows great teachers to advance their careers by developing leadership skills—including coaching and evaluation, collaborative planning and building a strong team culture—while continuing to work directly with students every day.
