Dear Team DPS,
This week, Denver Public Schools welcomed the majority of our 90,000 scholars back to more than 200 schools across the city. To start things off, we hosted a 2022-23 School Year Kickoff Event at Ellis Elementary to welcome students back into the building alongside Ellis Principal Jamie Roybal, DPS Board of Education Vice President Tay Anderson and Director Dr. Carrie Olson, as well as Denver Mayor Michael Hancock. During the first two days of school this week, I had the pleasure of visiting students and staff at 18 schools across DPS as they settled in for the new school year. Watch a video recap of the visits here.
As we ease into the new school year, I encourage all members of our DPS community to review DPS Thrives: A Strategic Roadmap to the Denver Public Schools Experience and the accompanying Executive Summary, which we launched late last week. The Strategic Roadmap was built in collaboration and partnership with Team DPS and the DPS community. In the Strategic Roadmap, we envision a new DPS experience that centers our students, with an intentional commitment to our marginalized students, while also elevating the experience of our adults. Together, we will turn our vision that Every Learner Thrives into a reality.
In collaboration,
Dr. Alex Marrero
Superintendent
