Sept. 19, 2023
Dear Team DPS,
Today is National IT Professionals Day. I want to take a moment to express my gratitude and appreciation for the incredible work done by the DPS Department of Technology Services (DoTS). Their daily efforts are the invisible glue that holds our technology systems together and makes modern-day education possible.
National IT Professionals Day, also known as Information Technology Professionals Day, traces its origins back to the early 2000s. It is celebrated on the third Tuesday of each September. The holiday was created to recognize and honor the significant contributions of IT professionals in an increasingly technology-driven world.
The work of the professionals in DoTS impacts every building in DPS. They build, maintain and grow an advanced, reliable suite of technology in our networks, systems integration and software. They are the first line of defense for cybersecurity and student data privacy. They partner with schools to provide high-quality, dedicated in-building assistance. They provide tech support for devices, phones and applications such as Google and Infinite Campus. Though often unseen, our IT professionals are crucial to creating the student learning experience, connecting families with their schools and evolving our district as a whole. We couldn’t do it without them.
This National IT Professionals Day, I encourage you to thank your local IT professionals for the impact they have on our working environment and in the lives of the students and families we serve. DoTS team members, your work is truly appreciated, and I am grateful to have such a talented team of IT professionals here at DPS.
Thank you,
Dr. Richard Charles
