Living Our DPS: Erika Gordon

"Erika initiated a lesson plan for our Discovery Link students with their buy in titled, 'Help us let Stedman Bloom.' The lesson taught through a fun, engaging way how to grow fruits and vegetables and to be proud of their own efforts by seeing results daily from their work in the garden. She involved our community by sending out a flyer asking for donation materials to help with growing the garden. This helped the students with their Discovery Link Garden, improving their physical and mental health, and allowed them take part of nature. Students demonstrated a more relaxed and happier disposition, bringing them together, which strengthened their social connections. Reducing their environmental impact and being outdoors in the sun increased their vitamin d levels all while teaching a fun, engaging lesson. There is a Chinese proverb that says, 'Life begins the day you start a garden.' Our kiddos absolutely enjoyed this lesson plan!"
