Later this week, DPS will be sharing updated information from health officials as well as the most up-to-date thinking on what the return to school will look like in August. Alongside that information, we wanted you to be aware of options for Accommodations and Leaves of Absence related to COVID-19.
Accommodations Related to COVID-19
(Vulnerable Individuals and Individuals with Disabilities)
Please note that you need to be logged into your dpsk12.net email account in order to complete this form. For instructions on accessing your dpsk12.net account, please see instructions at the end of this email.
Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and/or under the governor’s current order regarding “Vulnerable Individuals,” you may qualify for an accommodation. Individuals who could qualify for an accommodation include those who:
- Are 65 years and older
- Have chronic lung disease or moderate to severe asthma
- Have serious heart conditions
- Are immunocompromised
- Are pregnant women
- Are determined to be high risk by a licensed health care provider
- Other individuals with a recognized disability that interferes with their ability to perform the essential functions of their job during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Potential accommodations for employees who fall into these categories include:
- Working remotely (in your current placement or in a different placement working with students who choose a full-time remote option in the fall).
- Working in-person, but with increased safety measures to protect the health of the employee.
- Note: These are only examples. The accommodations that can be made in your case may depend on the nature of your disability or Vulnerable Individual status, your job duties, your work location and other factors.
Submit the Form by July 8
Starting in July, district teams will build staffing and student schedules for schools. In order to have sufficient time to plan for our first day of school, employees are asked to please fill out this secure and confidential form for Human Resources by July 8. It will be reviewed by the HR Leave team. No action is required if you are not seeking an accommodation.
The form will ask you for information about your current position and past experience, which will be used to help develop accommodations. The form will also ask you to provide medical documentation regarding your disability or the reasons you qualify as a Vulnerable Individual. You can provide your medical documentation at a later date if you need additional time. No documentation is required for a request based on age.
Note: Although it is critical for planning that we have requests by July 8, this process and our traditional ADA process will remain open for accommodations all year. Also, at this time, we are only reviewing accommodation requests related to when our employees personally have a disability or qualify as a Vulnerable Individual.

We recognize that these are stressful times as we navigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are re-imagining our schools and how we support our students. Thank you for supporting this work by helping us gather this critical information by July 8 so that we can plan for the quickly approaching school year.
If you have any additional questions, please submit them to Connect_HumanResources@dpsk12.org and someone will reach out to you.
Health and best wishes to you and your loved ones this summer.
