Leaves for Household Members with COVID-19

  • This leave type is specific for employees who have a member of their immediate household that tested positive for COVID-19. 

    For family members who tested positive for COVID-19 prior to 12/28/2021 are eligible for ten calendar days of Emergency Leave to cover the self-quarentine period. 

    On or after 12/28/2021, family members who tested positive for COVID-19 are eligible for five calendar days of Emergency Leave to cover the self-quarentine period followed by five working days of mask-wearing for the employee. Visit the CDC for more information on COVID-19 related guidelines. 

    If symptoms are experienced after five calendar days, the Emergency Leave can be extended with a doctor's note stating an estimated return to work date.

  • I Tested Positive for COVID-19

    Step 1: Do not report to the worksite. A COVID-19 diagnosis means you should isolate immediately.

    Step 2: Contact your manager to inform them you have tested positive for COVID-19.

      • Let your manager know you cannot report to the worksite for at least 10 days from the start of symptoms or date of positive test administration (if there are no symptoms)
      • Discuss with your manager which DPS employees and/or students you have been in close contact with in the time period of 48 hours before you were tested or started showing symptoms through the current date (CDC Resource). 
      • Discuss with your manager if working remotely is an option and if you are feeling well enough to do so. 

    Step 3: Submit a request for a Leave of Absence. If you are feeling ill, or are otherwise unable to work remotely, you need to submit a request for leave of absence immediately.  If you are unable to submit a leave request due to illness, contact your manager to submit it on your behalf. 

        • Steps for completing a leave of absence request: 
          1. You must request a leave through TruePay. Use this How To Guide to submit your request.
          2. You will select Emergency Leave on the TruePay site. This is the COVID related leave option. You will need to attach the positive test results.

    • Start and End date: The start date is the first date you did not report to the worksite. The end date will be no less than 10 calendar days from the start of symptoms.  The end date can be extended by the Leave of Absence Team if symptoms have not gone away. 
    • The requirements to return to work in person are:  
    • No fever for 24 hours without medicine, AND,
    • Other symptoms have improved, AND,
    • At least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared.

  • My Child or Someone in My Household That Cannot Isolate Alone Has Tested Positive for COVID-19

    Step 1: Do not report to the worksite. You should isolate immediately as you support the recovery for the person in the household. You then need to quarantine after isolation.   

    Step 2: Contact your manager to inform them you need to isolate and quarantine.

      • Let your manager know you cannot report to the worksite for at least 24 calendar days as you are isolating for the first 10 days and quarantining for the next 14 days.
      • Discuss with your manager if working remotely is an option. 

    Step 3: Submit a request for a Leave of Absence.  If you cannot work remotely, you need to submit a request for leave of absence immediately.

      • Steps for completing a leave of absence request: 
        1. You must request a leave through TruePay. Use this How To Guide to submit your request.
        2. You will select Emergency Leave on the TruePay site. This is the COVID related leave option. You will need to attach the positive results of the person in the household to the leave request. 

    Start and End date: The start date is the first date you did not report to the worksite. The end date should be no less than 24 calendar days from the day

  • All DPS employees are eligible for COVID-19 related leaves.

  • You can request a Leave through TruePay. Use this How To Guide to submit your request. We recommend using a computer to submit your request as mobile devices have been found to be unsuccessful.
