Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) in Denver Public Schools is a prevention-based, tiered framework of supports built to improve the outcomes of all students through a Whole Child lens -- using a data driven approach to assess, monitor, and support school communities in the areas of:

• Academics
• Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports
• Community Engagement & Resources
• TSEAL & Mental Health 
• Attendance
• Family, Cultural and Linguistic backgrounds
• Teacher training 
• School-Wide Culture

Guidance for MTSS in DPS is supported by the Colorado Department of Education’s Colorado Multi-Tiered System of Supports (COMTSS) framework. MTSS starts with a foundationally strong Tier 1, universal system of support where most students receive educational benefits. As a reminder, these tiers build on each other! Students at the Tier 2 level also receive Tier 1 interventions, and those at the Tier 3 level also receive Tiers 1 and 2 interventions. 

MTSS is driven by a multidisciplinary team at the school level using guidance from the district to have a shared language and understanding.
