The Colorado Open Records Act (CORA) guarantees Coloradans/Individuals the right to information from their state and local governments. In the spirit of open government and to comply with this law, Denver Public Schools makes most of its records open to the public upon request.

    CORA FAQ

What should I do if I get a CORA request from the press or the public?

CORA requests must go through the DPS CORA custodian in the Officer of General Counsel, unless the information/document is already publicly available (i.e. the DPS or CDE website.)

If you get a request from a member of the public or the press, tell them to submit a request via the DPS CORA website

What types of records are individuals allowed to access through CORA? What information are we not allowed to share with the public?

Most records, data, documents and other information will be made available to the public via CORA, with a few exceptions. All emails sent and received by DPS Gmail are subject to CORA.

Here is the information we typically should not share:

    • Personally identifying information, like social security numbers, home phone numbers or home addresses, or an individual’s tax records
    • Medical or mental health information
    • Student records or other records that could compromise the privacy of a child
    • Proprietary information, such as a business’s trade secrets or other confidential information DPS has agreed not to share
    • Any information about pending investigations
