Dear DPS Community,
When we first launched the Strategic Roadmap last August, our goal was to course-correct ourselves onto a path leading toward significant and positive change for all DPS students. We set out to identify systems that do not serve our students, staff and families, and got to work on prioritizing key initiatives, which contributed to increased graduation rates, expanding resources across the Denver community, reaching collective bargaining agreements and so much more.
After identifying the root causes of some of the district’s most pressing issues through the creation of the roadmap, we dedicated last school year to collaboratively coming up with and acting on solutions with the DPS community. As a result, I am happy to share our progress thus far with the launch of the 2022-23 Annual District Report! This report focuses on and celebrates student achievement and provides a high-level look at our response to disrupt, dismantle and redesign ineffective systems and strategies to allow for continued student growth and success. The report will be available on the DPS Thrives webpage in all Consent Decree languages in the coming days. I encourage you to read through it in its entirety to see the results of our efforts from last school year.
Providing this information is an opportunity to share the progress we’ve made up to this point while also informing the DPS community of the work we still have ahead of us. In the spirit of getting better at getting better, the data outlined in the report will help us make data-informed decisions on how we allocate our time, resources and efforts this school year and in the years following.
This is not an endpoint, rather, it’s a starting point in our journey to making our vision -- Every Learner Thrives -- a reality.
In collaboration,
Dr. Alex Marrero
Superintendent
