Volunteer Background Check Process

Individuals interested in volunteering in-person or virtually are required to complete the DPS Volunteer Background Check. The Volunteer Background Check link is located on the DPS Volunteer Services website. You MUST use the district provided link!

If you have been designated by leadership as your school or departments Volunteer Coordinator Support Staff you will assist volunteers, this includes backgroundchecks. To gain acccess to the Sterling Volunteers Portal, please follow the following credentialling steps. 

1. Go to learningspace and complte the NEW Volunteer Portal Certification Training 2024-25 (Updated, refreshed with more information!).
2. Once completed please reach out to the Sterling support via DPSsupport@sterlingvolunteers.com, cc sarah_rice@dpsk12.net, and ask for credentialed user access and provide the following infomation.

   5. Preferred Username:

DPS Spellbinders Storyteller Volunteers

• Spellbinders Storytellers are a group of passionate volunteers trained in the art of oral storytelling. Its mission is to use the art of oral storytelling to enhance literacy, encourage character development, and build intergenerational communities. Each volunteer returns to the same classroom each month to provide a 20 to 40-minute (depending on the age of the children and the needs of the teacher) oral storytelling session.
