  • Initial LEAP Observation Training (ILOT)

Link to self-register in Learning Space (Synchronous, 16 hours) - Initial LEAP Observation Training (ILOT)

Purpose:  Initial LEAP Observer Training is a two-day training introducing new to role leaders to Denver Public Schools’ teacher growth and performance system, Leading Effective Academic Practice (LEAP).

    The training aims to:

    • Cultivate a district-wide investment and passion in a common vision of excellent teaching and instruction that leads all DPS students to mastery of rigorous, grade-level standards.
    • Provide a deeper understanding of the Framework of Effective Teaching and Professionalism and best practices of observation and feedback so that all DPS teachers experience consistent, calibrated performance ratings, reviews, and feedback.
    • Build the capacity of observers to facilitate an integrated teacher growth and performance experience in which all measures of LEAP, the Framework of Effective Teaching, Professionalism, Student Perception Survey, and Student Growth, are used to provide feedback.
    • Participants must complete all sessions (both days of the 2-day style training or all 4 half-day sessions of the PLC style training), plus asynchronous prework and job-embedded homework assignments

This course is a pre-requisite to the LEAP Observer Certification video assessment.

  • Evaluator Bias Training #1

Link to self-register in Learning Space (self-paced, asynchronous, 1.75 hours)  - Evaluator Bias Training #1

Purpose: Coaching and evaluating for equity, identifying and disrupting bias in performance evaluation.

The objectives of this training are to:

    • Describe why and how biases function
    • Identify types of evaluator bias and how they can influence the evaluation process
    • Self-reflect on our values, beliefs, and behaviors
    • Explore strategies to disrupt biases in the teacher evaluation process
    • Commit to holding ourselves accountable to equitable practices as evaluators

*This course is included in Initial LEAP Observer Training (ILOT)

  • Evaluator Bias Training #2

Link to self-register in Learning Space (self-paced, asynchronous, 60 min.) - Evaluator Bias Training #2

Purpose: In the context of observation, bias is any preference that might lead an evaluator to rate differently than what is called for by the rating criteria. By understanding our own biases as observers, we can be on the lookout for triggers and counter their possible effects on a rating. The goal of this training is not to eliminate biases or to make judgments about them; rather, it is to help identify our biases and recognize patterns of thinking we need to set aside as we align what we observe to our shared interpretation of effective teaching.

The objectives of this training are to:

    • Understand the concept of lens to mirror work as we acknowledge, interrogate, and disrupt our biases as evaluators
    • Self-Reflect on your own identity and its influence on your lens as an evaluator
    • Deepen Awareness about biased tendencies, or patterns, based on race, gender, sexual orientation, and other diverse identities
    • Explore strategies to disrupt biases in the teacher evaluation process
    • Commit to hold ourselves accountable to equitable practices as evaluators

*This course is included in Initial LEAP Observer Training (ILOT)

  • MLE Evaluator Training Course

Link to self-register in Learning Space (self-paced, asynchronous, 60 min.) - MLE Evaluator Training Course

Purpose:  In compliance with the Consent Decree, this course delivers essential guidance on evaluating for both content and language instruction. It further offers practical strategies for evaluators to offer in feedback sessions to enhance and increase accessibility for our Multilingual Learners (MLLs)

*This course is included in Initial LEAP Observer Training (ILOT)
