About STEAM

  • STEAM is an interdisciplinary approach to learning that focuses on real world lessons that allow learners to practice communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking to become the innovative problem solvers our future needs.

    Denver Public Schools learners, especially those impacted by systemic inequities, experience high-quality STEAM programming that provides a pathway to meet and exceed their unique potential to thrive in the 21st century economy. By engaging students and families in robust STEAM bilingual programs, and by creating purposeful partnerships across our community, we can achieve the following goals:

    1. All learners will have equitable access to quality STEAM learning, including CTE programming;
    2. All students will graduate with high levels of STEAM literacy, able to be engaged and responsible citizens in an increasingly technologically-driven society and empowered to make decisions about what they want to do;
    3. The local pipeline to Denver’s STEAM workforce will reflect the diversity of the community;
    4. Denver Public Schools will be recognized nationally as an innovative city that is a leader in both STEAM industry and STEAM education.

    To move toward this vision, we focus on:

    • Fostering purposeful partnerships with stakeholders in STEAM-related industries, higher education institutions, and community-based organizations to shift the STEAM ecosystem towards racial justice;
    • Creating spaces of belonging for K-12 learners where they make cross content connections and are seen and valued as multifaceted individuals;
    • Providing clear scheduling expectations and supporting educators to integrate STEAM Practices into their learning and teaching spaces;
    • Holding ourselves accountable to the residents, families, and young people that we serve.
