Supplemental benefits are extra, optional benefits available to all DPS employees. These benefits work with your medical, dental, and vision plans to provide comprehensive coverage specific to you and your family’s unique needs. These plans can help you enhance your benefits strategy, manage costs, and minimize financial vulnerability. Check out what DPS offers below:
Critical Illness (sometimes called catastrophic illness) is offered through MetLife and available to DPS employees that work 20 or more hours per week. Critical Illness insurance is not a replacement for health insurance - you must still be covered by a medical plan that meets minimum requirements for the Affordable Care Act. In the event of a big health emergency - such as cancer, heart attacks or strokes - critical illness insurance pays out lump sums to cover costs not covered by your insurance (such as deductibles, prescriptions, or speciality treatments). Click here for plan details and rates.
Accident coverage is offered through MetLife and available to DPS employees that work 20 or more hours per week. This insurance pays out a lump sum if you are involved in an accident and incur specific kinds of injuries. This insurance complements disability coverage and your health insurance to help cover expenses that aren’t otherwise covered by insurance. Click here for plan details and rates.
Hospital Indemnity (sometimes called hospitalization or hospital insurance) is offered through MetLife and available to DPS employees that work 20 or more hours per week. This insurance is designed to help cover the costs of a hospital admission that may not be covered by your medical insurance. The lump sum payouts can be used for many purposes, including medical copays, deductibles, and regular expenses such as food, rent, or utilities. Click here for plan details and rates.
Voluntary Payroll Protection Plan
The Voluntary Payroll Protection Plan through Denver Teachers' Club is available to full-time DPS employees whose annual salary is paid in equal installments throughout the year. For the cost of $10 a month or $120 a year, the plan provides members with cash payments for days missed from work due to personal illness or injury. Visit the Program Site to learn more. The Assistance Fund through Denver Teachers' Club lends non-personal, durable medical equipment to any employee of DPS - active or retired - for as long as you need it, free of charge! For additional details and a list of FAQs, click here.

Originally called the DPS Credit Union, Westerra was renamed to reflect the 7-county Denver Metro Area being served. The credit union remains focused on offering financial services, grants, fundraising, and financial education to teachers and schools. What’s better? DPS employees receive a free state or national park pass or FitBit™ when they complete a financial review and open a new account. Visit a local branch or online at https://www.westerracu.com/.
