Campus Safety Officers (CSO) are an integral part of our commitment to safety at Denver Public Schools (DPS). This division includes Campus Safety Officers, Sergeants, a Lieutenant, and a Commander, all responsible for ensuring the safety of a diverse range of educational settings, from K-8 and Charter schools to Middle, High, and Intensive Pathway Schools throughout DPS.

Core Responsibilities:

• Proactive Safety Measures: The primary function of our CSOs is to maintain a secure learning environment. They proactively intervene in and resolve both potential and actual disruptive threats or activities, maintaining peace and safety across campuses.
  
  
• Monitoring and Supervision: CSOs are actively present at school sites, where they monitor student activities and ensure adherence to district policies and procedures. They supervise students, reinforcing positive behaviors and the observance of administrative rules and policies.
  
  
• Policy Enforcement: CSOs uphold the safety and security of district schools, related properties, and assets, operating in accordance with district policies, and applicable federal, state, and local laws.
  

• Community and School Engagement: CSOs engage with students and staff to promote awareness around safety protocols and preventive measures. They are also key players in our broader mission to enhance school climate, supporting initiatives focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion training.
  
  
• Collaboration for Safety: Through collaboration with educational leaders and community partners, CSOs implement strategies that proactively address potential safety issues, ensuring a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all within the district.

The CSO team is crucial in delivering effective safety practices and fostering positive relationships that strengthen our school community and enhances the overall educational experience across multiple locations ensures that DPS remains a safe and nurturing space for educational excellence.
