Data Quality Management
The Data Quality Management Team (DQMT) is a part of the Financial Services Department and works closely with all Denver Public Schools and central office departments that enter student data into Infinite Campus.
We strive to maintain data integrity and equity, through accuracy and transparency, of all the student data that is entered in Infinite Campus and reported to the Colorado Department of Education. We seek to deliver a one-stop-shop for administrators and front office staff that we support by providing customer service and training that is second to none. We passionately pursue opportunities to collaborate with departments across the district to expand our excellence of training and mentorship for all.
DQMT provides data error reports and offers support through ongoing trainings, in addition to ongoing coaching to ensure timely, complete and accurate data entry. This student data is used by the Student Submission Team (SST) for state reporting to the Colorado Department of Education (CDE).
In Loving Memory
It is with warm but heavy hearts that we remember our most beloved and beautiful teammate Karen Straight. Karen graduated from CSU and set off to Europe with a fellow ballerina with $200 in her pocket, the clothes on her back, and whatever she could fit in a back pack. She traveled and danced with some of Europe’s most prestigious dance companies. She enjoyed the finest wines, breads, and cheeses, and basked in the glow of the Tuscan sun. She mesmerized us with her stories of hitchhiking through France, and spending hours drinking in the rich culture and beauty of Greece.
Being a gypsy of sorts Karen found her way back to Colorado and began her career at Steele Elementary in 1989. While she loved her time in the front office working with students and staff, her true passion was data integrity and she stepped out of the spotlight if you will, and took a new role behind the curtain. She was a founding partner on the original Data Quality Management team in 2000. She was tasked with establishing data entry policies and procedures, as well as monitoring ELA data. She assisted the district in transitions from several different student record keeping methods. The two largest being the transition from SASI to Infinite Campus, as well as moving from paper cumulative records to paperless. Karen LOVED talking to her schools on the phone and would often call just to say hello or help them work through a problem.
Karen was the anchor to our ship and kept us steady when we were all out at schools and trainings. During our busiest times of year she was often the only one answering the hotline, validating addresses, working the e-mails in the inbox, supporting Student Submissions and still managed to squeeze in a salad or a lunch of salted meats and cheese with cucumbers on the side, a favorite of Karen’s. Karen was on the Data Quality team for 20 years and this past October marked Karen’s 30 years with DPS. She was a loyal Team DPS player and one that can never be replaced.
In her spare time Karen loved to read, stay up on the latest political news, and play video games. Many may not know, Karen was a huge gamer and was quite good! A self-proclaimed crazy-cat lady Karen loved playing with and spending time with her cats and supported shelters and animal rights organizations as often as she could.
Karen passed on March 25, 2020 and is survived by her son and daughter who have graciously adopted her fur-babies (cats). We like to think she is drinking fine wine and dancing the day away on the hill sides of Greece again. The office will always be a little dimmer where Karen once sat, but her spirit, passion, work ethic, and tenacity will live on forever!
