Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI)
In support of DPS policy, all center-based special education teachers and paraprofessionals need to be certified in NCI, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention. This training is also valuable to special educators and paraprofessionals, school administrators, school psychologists, social workers, and restorative practices coordinators.
The initial training, a Hybrid Model, consists of completing a 2-hour on-line portion before class, followed by a 4.5 hour Virtual Training. Trainings are typically offered on Saturdays and during Teal/Green Days. A blue CPI card is awarded at the successful completion of the course and is valid for one year. To remain certified, staff must attend a 4.5-hour Refresher each year. These Hybrid and Refresher trainings are available monthly throughout the year. You can register for upcoming trainings and view the class schedule in Learning Space based on the type of class you are looking for.
