• Prepare for the 2024-25 School Year

The SLO process doesn't quite work for NIIs in the same way that it does for traditional teachers because the ways that they work with students and impact student growth is different. NIIs do not always have consistent caseloads. Some NIIs see each student once per school year, while others may spend most of their time working with teachers and support staff to influence student growth through training and support of adults. With the insight and expertise of teachers and leaders across NII departments as a foundation, the SLO process has been replaced with the Student Service Objective (SSO) process for NIIs beginning in the 24-25 school year. Expectations for SSOs align with the work that NIIs do throughout the year as part of their practice, and allow for flexibility to respect and honor the unique nature of each NIIs role in impacting student growth across the district through their service.

Non-Instructional/Itinerant Teachers (NIIs) have a deep understanding of where students are when services begin and the outcomes that are possible for them over time. Effective NIIs utilize data to drive their service and are constantly reflecting on and refining  their craft. Student Service Objectives (SSOs) embody these effective practices by helping  DPS NIIs focus on high impact criteria, set ambitious goals, and measure students’ progress toward attaining them. This process will yield greater student outcomes by allowing NIIs to strategically plan from an end vision of student outcomes, ensuring that  every minute of service is geared toward our district vision that Every Learner Thrives.
