Multi-Functional School and Activity Bus (MFSAB)

  • A Multi-Functional School Activity Bus (MFSAB) is a part of the rental fleet available to DPS schools and departments. Training is required to rent an MFSAB vehicle. Training is available for coaches, teachers or any staff who wishes to learn standard operating procedures to transport students to and from school events, competitions etc.

    MFSAB Training

    The Safety and Training team offers MFSAB training classes to obtain a New Certification and for Re-Certification. New Certifications are for individuals who have not previously been trained or held a certification to drive an MFSAB. Recertification is required for the following two years, after the initial certification. After three years of certification, an individual must complete the New Certification training again. Certifications are only good for one calendar year.

    New-Certification Classes: Classes are the second Tuesday and Thursday of the month,  from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (CDE requires six hours of training)

    Re-Certification Clases: Classes are offered on the third Tuesday and Thursday of the month from 9-11 a.m. or 12-2 p.m. (CDE requires two hours of training) There is a 90-day grace period to re-certify after the certification has expired. However, individuals with an expired certification may not operate any MFSAB vehicle. If the Small Vehicle Operator Certification is more than 90 days expired, a New Certification is requred.

    To register for for New or Recertification Classes, please email Please note that no walk-ins will be accepted for any class and all paperwork must be completed prior to starting class. Within 72 hours of your class, you must submit the required documents to the email above. You can find a list of the required documents on the right side of this webpage. Upon receipt of your Medical Information Questionnaire and approved MVR, you will be notified from DPS Transportation that you are cleared to attend the course. You will receive a notification at least 24-48 hours hours after approval. If you need to cancel your registration, please email us as soon as possible. We will do our best to reschedule you for the next available training class. 

    Please note: Arriving 10 minutes or later after the start of the class will result in your having to reschedule for the next available class.

    MFSAB Vehicle Requests

    All requests for use of MFSAB vehicles need to be made via Trip Tracker. The entry of the request, approved by the principal or appointed designee, must be received by the Transportation Department at least 10 student/teacher contact days prior to the anticipated excursion date. MFSAB units must be picked up Monday through Friday.
