How We Use Salary Market Data

The “market” refers to the peer institutions such as other school districts and other organizations that DPS uses to make compensation comparisons to determine if internal pay grades for specific jobs are competitive.

At DPS we look at a combination of competitive school district, public, and private sector market data (depending on the job) to determine the pay grade assignment. DPS considers the following districts when comparing survey data; Aurora, Cherry Creek, Douglas County, Jefferson County, and Adams 5 Star. DPS also utilizes credible 3rd party vendors to market price academic and non-academic roles. Those survey sources include Mercer, Mountain States Employers Council, and Economic Research Institute.

As a non-profit public employer we may not match salaries in the private market. We endeavor to compete with local markets; however, DPS cannot be equally competitive with all jobs.
