RE:  Happy Thanksgiving!

I want to thank you all for being so flexible for the past nine months. Things certainly have felt upside down because of COVID-19, yet it is comforting to know that we’re not in it alone. Transportation Services is a great team that I am proud to lead. Going into Thanksgiving next week, I know I’ll be mentioning you all as something I’m thankful for.

What are you thankful for? I know it can be hard to find the bright spots right now, especially when the governor is asking us not to be with our extended families this holiday season, but there are still good things happening in this world. What’s happening in yours? Please send an email about what you’re thankful for this year to transportation@dpsk12.org. We’ll compile your answers and will share them with the team, so hopefully you can make others smile.

While we’re talking about smiling, want to hear an awesome Thanksgiving joke? Here goes.

“Why was the Thanksgiving soup so expensive?”

“I don’t know, why?”

“It had 24 carrots!” Buh dun chuh.

Ok, that was cheesy, I know, but Thanksgiving dinner doesn’t have to be expensive this year! Walmart is teaming up with Ibotta and other companies to offer you the fixings for a free Thanksgiving meal, even the turkey! It’s a rebate offer, so you first purchase the approved items, and then you scan your receipt using the Ibotta app to get your money back. Click here to get started. You can also read this news article to learn more about how it works.

Ok, time for a meme break:

Is that right or is that right? Hopefully your family appreciates all the hard work you put into the meal this year!

I know many of you have had to participate in virtual learning instead of sending your children to school like in a “normal” year. You’re probably tired of coming up with ways to entertain them. Here, let me help. I found this list of 40 fun Thanksgiving activities for your children to do. You can even join them or maybe let the activities occupy them so you can get some alone time.

I think the homemade pinata sounds especially good right now-- maybe you still have some leftover candy to stuff it with.

If you and/or your children do any of these fun activities, please email some pictures to transportation@dpsk12.org. I’d love to show them off and spread some holiday cheer. Even if you don’t do any of the activities-- we want to see how you’re celebrating, so send us some pictures. Bonus points if you dress your cat up like a turkey.

Thank you,
