When you’re at work this morning, take a moment while you’re in the bus lot to just listen. It’ll be the last time for a few months that you’ll hear all the engines revving. The 2020-21 school year ends for most schools today. While I can’t exactly say the year has been without challenges, I will say you all have made it the best it could be. You rolled with all the punches, adapted to all the changes and did what you had to do to keep students and co-workers safe. You did it all without complaining, keeping others in mind, which I appreciate. You are and will continue to be a large part of the educational process for many DPS students. Many students will owe their success to the driver who provided excellent service through their academic career.
When we all return in August, I hope the bus lot will be even louder, with roars of the buses running and the enthusiasm of our team. We are planning on being able to offer transportation to more students at more schools next year. Our goal will be to provide service at pre-COVID levels.
I’m looking forward to the day when our terminals are full again, with people laughing and swapping stories from their day. Maybe it was a student who said something funny or maybe you saw an act of kindness on the bus that you just had to share. Whatever brings us all together, I am excited for us all to be back at the terminals.
I want you to know that all your hard work during this rough year hasn’t gone unnoticed. Although we had to postpone the end-of-the-year barbeque, I know it will be even better in August. It’ll be a fun time to catch up and see how you spent your summer. I’m happy we’re still providing excellent service to as many students as possible with our limited capacities. I’m also happy for those who are taking time off over the summer. I hope you enjoy your break and come back in August with some fun pictures of your adventures to share. Here is a great big thank you from our Supervisors, Managers, Directors, and me. Thank You again.
