RE:      Attendance Bonus

DPS remains in a severe CDL driver shortage, and attendance is always an area where we can improve. The purpose of the Attendance Bonus is to provide an incentive award to a driver who has a low frequency of absences. The goal is to continually improve as a department in upholding our core values: Students first, Integrity, Equity, Collaboration, Accountability, and Fun. Improving our attendance puts students first. This will also help us improve on-time scheduling, which improves our integrity and accountability with our parents and students.

Collaborating as a team, we can navigate the attendance problem and solve the concerns we encounter in our day-to-day business. Once we can improve the attendance, the pressure on the overall system will also improve and we can focus on our students and have a little fun. The effective date of this bonus is the November 7th 2021 pay period. We encourage you to challenge yourself to improve attendance and help us improve our students’ transportation experience.

Attendance Bonus criteria:

  • Program details
    • You can earn $100 bonus every week
    • This bonus can be up to a 10% increase in wages
  • Who is eligible for the bonus?
    • All drivers
  • How do you earn the bonus?
    • The bonus is earned weekly
    • A driver can miss one A.M. or P.M. shift per week and still be eligible for the bonus
    • A driver can only miss one Friday or Monday A.M. or P.M. shift over the pay period. These tend to be our heaviest days to cover.
    • The bonus will be paid out every pay period on your regular check
  • Notable conditions
    • Because all drivers are now a minimum of 6.5 hourly employees, if you choose to reduce your hours below this minimum, you are still eligible for the bonus-- however, it will be treated like a perfect Attendance Bonus. You will only earn the bonus if you do not miss any A.M or P.M. shifts per week.
    • This bonus is not intended to encourage any employees to come to work sick. If you are truly sick, then the necessary precautions should be taken and the employee should stay home. There are other ways an employee can help DPS with attendance such as being mindful of appointments and scheduling during off-duty hours.

Attendance Bonus Administration

The Attendance Bonus operates in accordance with the following program requirements:

  • The employee’s direct supervisor will monitor the use of the Attendance Bonus and will report annually on the use of the Program.
  • The hiring process will be fair and consistent with current and existing district policy and procedures. Please visit the HR website for more information.
