SUBJECT: Transportation Summer Work

 

It has not been determined how much summer work will be available for drivers and paraprofessionals.  Drivers and paraprofessionals will be selected according to seniority and availability.   IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT EACH PERSON WISHING TO WORK DURING THE SUMMER OF 2022 WORK THE ENTIRE PERIOD NEEDED. 

 

Summer school activity is limited to Tuition Out Schools, Extended School Year Programs and a few other yet to be determined programs.    

 

While employed in support of summer programs, all work rules as outlined in the “Employee Handbook” are in effect, with slight clarifications to summer extra work posted at the bid.  Attendance is important; therefore, employees assigned to summer work must attend work on a daily basis for the entire period.  PERSONNEL WITH PHYSICAL RESTRICTIONS, WHICH PREVENT THE PERFORMANCE OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, MUST BE CLEARED FOR FULL DUTY PRIOR TO THE DATE OF THE BID.

 

The Extended School Year (ESY) will be held June 13, 2022 thru July 8, 2022.   It should be noted that all summer work will be scheduled out of both Hilltop and Northeast Terminals.   Employees will be required to report for work one day before the start of their route for bus cleaning and route familiarization.   For example: ESY starts on June 13, so bus cleaning and route familiarization would be on June 10.

 

The routes for Summer School programs will be posted electronically May 6th, 9th, and 10th, 2022.  Regular school year shuttle routes will not be posted; they will be posted in the regular school year bid in August.  

 

The Driver bid will be virtual on May 11th and 12th, 2022 each day from 10 AM till 1 PM.  Those employees wanting to work this summer support Transportation requirements, refer to the below listed block times per your seniority list number for your block time to bid in that order.  

 

The Paraprofessional bid will be virtual on May 12th and 13th, 2022 from 10 AM till 1 PM.   Those employees wanting to work this summer support Transportation requirements, refer to the below listed block times per your seniority list number for your block time to bid in that order.

Employee telephone numbers must be kept current with the department.   After the initial completion of the seniority list, new and vacated Summer School routes will be posted in the terminals each Wednesday at 7 AM and will be pulled down at 7 AM the following day.  The employee who has seniority and eligible to bid the work will be contacted via telephone; and, will be given till 4 PM on Thursday to respond.

 

Please note that all work described here and posted is for TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT SUPPORT FOR THE SUMMER SCHOOL SESSION.   IT WILL NOT COVER ANY OTHER TYPE OF SUMMER WORK FROM OTHER DEPARTMENTS.
