RE:      Count Day is October 3rd

Count Day Is District Funding

What is count day for our employees? For some, it is usually on october 1st each school year [this year count day is october 3rd]. For others, it is a different colored driver sheet and staff members checking your addition. For our school district, it is a source of funding for our schools. Yes, a source of funding and all you have to do as a school bus driver is drive your route and take students to school. Sounds simple and easy, right? Well, there is more to it.

The state of Colorado reimburses every school district a percentage of the school bus miles driven on count day, which is October 3rd this year. But like any other monetary transaction, the paperwork has to be accurate and understandable. That is where you the driver and/or paraprofessional come in. On count day, we need your help to get the state funding for our kids.

Here is how you can be part of the team that will get the district every cent it deserves:

  1. Use the correct colored driver sheet for the bus routes you drive on October 3rd.

  1. Make sure to clearly fill out all the information on the sheet, ensuring it is readable and accurate. For each route you drive, the route number needs to be the correct one. And,  if you are driving a route for someone else, the regular bus number for that route. This information is so important. The mileage calculations are very critical because that is how we get reimbursed: per mile.

  1. Be patient and thorough because staff members will check your work. We are checking it because we all make little mistakes from time to time; however, the mistakes on our count day driver sheets equate literally into money we do not get.

  1. When completing your routes on count day, you must drive to every listed stop– even if the student calls in sick that day or no students have been at the stop. That is our snap shot on the miles we will drive for the school year.

  1. We will have a practice day on september 29th.

We are the first team every morning welcoming our students and taking them to school safely – a tough job in itself.  Remember, October 3rd is our time to shine– the District is counting on us to bring home the win!

Thank you,
